The Šumava National Park and Protected Landscape Area are linked and cooperate with various international nature conservation structures.

This non-governmental organisation represents European protected areas in a total of 39 countries involved in the protection of unique wildlife and landscapes.
The NP Administration has been a member of the federation since 1992 and pays an annual fee of 5,000 Euro.
The highly sought after certification - "Transboundary Parks" diploma was awarded to the NP on 12.9. 2009 during the Europme 2009 Congress in Strömstadt, Sweden.

This has been awarded by the Council of Europe to model national parks since 1965. To date, the diploma has been awarded to 60 territories in 23 countries (such as the neighbouring Bavarian Forest National Park). This prestigious award was also awarded to other NP in the Czech Republic such as NP Podyjí, PLA White Carpathians and NPR Karlštejn.
The NP submitted its application for assessment for the diploma award through the Ministry of Environment in June 2008, it was later updated and re-sent in May 2009.

PAN Parks address the protection and promotion of wildlife in Europe. For further information see
The Šumava National Park and PLA commenced official negotiations with the representatives of the foundation regarding participation in 1998 and again in 2009.

Logo - IUCN International Union for the Protection of Nature

Founded in 1948 at the end of the International Conference on Nature Protection organized by UNESCO in Fontainebleau near Paris. The union consists of 140 countries with its central office in the Swiss town of Gland.
The Czech Republic has been a member of the union since 2000 (Government Decree No. 190 from 16.2.2000). The Agency for the Protection of Nature and Landscapes (AOPK CR) is a full member in the government agency category, the Czech and Slovak Association of Zoological Gardens ( ) is a full member in the non-governmental organisation category, similar to the Czech Union for Nature Conservation (ČSOP) ( which is a full member of the IUCN in the non-governmental organisation category with a national scope of activity and the Krkonoše National Park (KRNAP) ( is an associate member of the IUCN.
