Man and Nature

Šumava National Park includes the majority of the precious nature reserves in Šumava that require strong protection. For example, these are the remains of the virgin mountain forests, glacial lakes and upland moors.
At the same time, one of its basic characteristics is the omnipresent diffusion of this intact natural environment with traces of ever present human activity. The landscape in Šumava National Park is therefore shaped by both natural and cultural influences. The cultural landscape objective is to permanently preserve the typical Šumava countryside with all its traditional elements, including the method of management.
