IC Stožec

The exhibit chiefly focuses on the forest communities in the national park.

The interpretation panels outline each of the ecosystems, presenting the typical members of the animal and plant kingdoms, the evolution of wood, and the possible adverse effects resulting in the extinction of the community.

The other part covers the transformation of the countryside with the arrival of humans, the history of the territory, the fate of the chapel in Stožec, and the construction of the Schwarzenberg timber floating canal.

Near the centre you can find:

  • a geology display dedicated to the southern portion of Šumava;
  • an outdoor area with a number of attractions;
  • Areál lesních her (Forest Adventure Trail).

In addition to the European elk showpiece, there is another specimen on display from 2014 onwards: the European beaver, this country's largest rodent.
